East Suffolk Council has appointed ABPmer as its Designated Person under the requirements of the Department for Transport’s Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) for its harbour in Southwold.

A new green cross-channel ferry service is due to launch in September 2022, taking passengers across the English Channel via fast commercial sailing catamarans. SailLink will shortly be transiting passengers between Dover and Boulogne-Sur-Mer, with a crossing time of approximately four hours.

Irish Lights (www.irishlights.ie ) has announced a major conference ‘Navigating To 2050 – A safe and sustainable maritime future’. 

This will be held in Dublin Castle on 15 and 16 November 2022 and a virtual attendance is also available.

A  new heatwave, the fourth since the beginning of June 2022,  is ongoing in central and western Europe.

According to the national weather services, air temperatures  between 9 and 14 August could again exceed 44°C in Spain,  40°C in France, 35°C in the south of the United Kingdom and 30°C in the Netherlands.

At the Port of Guam on 10 August the US Coast Guard recognized mariners aboard the CGA CGM Herodote for their action to save lives in March this year.

Captain Nick Simmons, US Coast Guard Forces Micronesia/Sector Guam, presented Captain Donald Moore and the crew a Coast Guard Certificate of Merit for their efforts to rescue fishers more than 100 miles off Japan after their vessel suffered a fire on 21 March.

It was announced from San Pedro, California, in mid-July that the Port of Los Angeles moved 876,611 TEU in June, edging out last year as the best June in the Port’s 115-year history. At the mid-point of 2022, the Port has handled more than 5.4 million TEU, matching last year’s record-setting pace.

In a bid to strengthen relationships and interoperability, the US Coast Guard conducted a multilateral search and rescue drill alongside longtime partners from the UK, Japan, and the west Pacific Republic of Palau in late July. This was reported by USCG Forces Micronesia from Santa Rita, Guam, early in August.

MOU with Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd

Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Kolkata on 7 July.
