Privacy Statement

The International Harbour Masters’ Association (IHMA) is a non-profit-making organization with its head office in Surrey, England. and manages the IHMA website (https://harbourmaster.org). IHMA understands the importance of protecting and safeguarding privacy when visiting the IHMA website. This Privacy Statement informs you about the information the IHMA website may collect, how the information is used, and how you can access and correct certain information that we may collect.

If you as a visitor choose to register or submit information via the IHMA website, you will become a “Registered User” and you agree to the use of such data in accordance with this Privacy Statement. Also note that IHMA may use third parties to host all or portions of, or to assist in maintaining, the IHMA website.

You can access the public area of the IHMA website without submitting any personally identifiable data. Individual IHMA members may voluntarily choose to provide IHMA with identifiable personal data by completing a registration form for access to the members-only area of the IHMA website or by filling out the contact form on the IHMA website. The personally identifiable data that we would collect from you if you so choose would typically include your name and title, email address, mailing address, telephone, and information about your organization. These data are reasonably necessary for mutual communication among IHMA member organizations and individuals and fulfilling your requests and providing you with the most relevant, targeted offers and information from IHMA. All such data collected shall be referred to herein as “Personal Data”.

Furthermore, IHMA may monitor incoming and outgoing IHMA website traffic data to help diagnose problems with its servers and to manage the IHMA website and services and content provided via the website. IHMA may use this data to assemble broad demographic information about its visitors, customers, and partners in general.

By submitting your Personal Data, you consent to the collection and use of your Personal Data as described in this Privacy Statement. IHMA may share Personal Data that you submit in order to gain access to the members-only area of the IHMA website with IHMA management and secretariat. Such parties are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.  

IHMA undertakes reasonable efforts to protect the confidentiality of the Personal Data, preferences and other information it has collected through the IHMA website and will never knowingly allow access to this information to anyone outside IHMA other than as described herein.

You should also do your part in protecting your information. Your UserID and any password (if such is provided or enacted) are confidential, and you are responsible for retaining such confidentiality. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the internet as a public transmission network, neither IHMA’s network nor data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect Personal Data that is transmitted to us by you, IHMA cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information. Thus, any Personal Data transmitted to us is done so at your own risk.   

IHMA aims to keep your Personal Data as accurate as possible. Should you at any time desire to review, correct or update your Personal Data, you may update your relevant profile or contact the Secretariat at secretary.ihma@harbourmaster.org. IHMA will comply with such requests as soon as commercially reasonable.

Data Retention: the Personal Data that you submit to IHMA will only be retained for as long as required for the purposes for which it was collected or as required by law. Our retention of your Personal Data allows IHMA to continue to provide you with highly personalized services without interruption.

Changes to this Privacy Statement: IHMA reserves the right to change this Privacy Statement at any time and without prior notice to you. Your continued use of the IHMA website will mean you accept those changes. IHMA will take reasonable measures to notify you if there is a material change in our privacy practices with respect to use of the information you have provided to IHMA.
