Worldwide there are approximately 3,000 merchant ports and the work of the Harbour Master can vary widely from country to country and from port to port even within the same country.
The Association's strength is in its membership which is diverse, highly-qualified and a valuable source of experience and information. IHMA periodically offers webinars on a variety of topics of interest to Harbour Masters featuring experts from within the Association, as well as training and instructional videos on important issues within the ports sector. We also provide useful video updates on the Association’s activities and partnerships to connect, inform and unify Harbour Masters around the world.
Back in 2011, the European Harbour Masters’ Committee (EHMC) responded to concerns about knowledge gaps in the mooring process by commissioning a video titled “The Missing Link - improving the mooring processes”. This has now been fully updated and expanded into a suite of free videos that was launched during this NI webinar.
Moderated by David Patraiko, Director of Projects, The NI, the webinar seeks to address a significant cause of personal injury and delays to commercial operations – the often-overlooked challenge of mooring.
In June 2022 the popular video produced by the European Harbour Masters' Committee on mooring safety - ‘The Missing Link’, received a complete overhaul to respond to ever-present concerns about knowledge gaps in the mooring process.
