On 10 March the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Roads and Transport of Kenya reported that Captain William Kipkemboi Ruto has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority for a period of three years with immediate effect.
The position of Managing Director at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) had been
vacant for the past three years. During this period, to ensure the continuity of KPA’s businesses, the Board made several appointments to the position in an Acting capacity.

Following the recruitment exercise carried out by the Board of Directors of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) from 23 December 2022, the authority received applications for the post. After a rigorous and intensive recruitment process, the Board made its recommendation  to the Cabinet Secretary

Captain William Ruto holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Strategic Management option from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

He is an associate fellow of the Nautical Institute (AFNI) and has been a member of IHMA since 2018.

He has attained the highest qualification as a Ship Captain (Class 1 Master Mariner) from South Tyneside Marine College in the UK.

Captain Ruto is a seasoned mariner having started his career in 1991 at KPA as a Cadet Marine Deck Officer before rising through the ranks to be a General Manager, Operations, and later a Harbour Master.

Until this appointment, he was the General Manager of the Kisumu Port.

His wealth of experience spanning 32 years will be instrumental in ensuring Kenya Ports Authority delivers on its mandate to the people of Kenya and continues to contribute towards the growth of the Kenyan economy.
